Dear Families,

Firstly, we wanted to say a huge thank for the effort that you and your children put into World Book Day costumes. The children enjoyed a fun filled day with lots of reading and book-based activities. We are sure that your encouragement and the actives planned by teachers will help to inspire a love of reading in our children.

The recent news has been dominated with awful stories and images of the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is probably something that many of your children are asking questions about. The DfE have published the following about talking to children about this. It is worth a read and may help you discuss the situation and answer your children’s questions.

Secondary School Places

Y6 students received notification of their secondary school places this week. We hope that you were all pleased with the allocations that you received. Please respond to your offer before Tuesday 15 March 2022 by accepting your place, even if you have not been offered your first choice. If this case you should accept and opt to remain on the waiting list(s) for any school(s) you ranked higher than your offered place. More details here Secondary school places

Times Tables – children need to learn them!

It is important at Exhall Juniors that all children learn and practise their times tables. The national curriculum expectation is that 'pupils should be taught to recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12’ in Year 4 and this will be tested in this summer.  Your child practises their times tables each week in school, but reinforcing this learning at home is vital.

Too many children are still relying on counting on their fingers, however, the Year 4 test gives just 6 seconds to recall the answer and input it on the screen – it isn’t a long time. Have a go yourself on the link below. More ideas for you to help your child improve their times table knowledge will be in March’s newsletter, but just ten minutes every night with you going through a times table with your child is the most effective.

Front Door Out of Action

We are having work done to the front door of the school on Tuesday. If you could try and use the telephone, rather than call in, it will help everyone out – thank you.
